There is nothing more invigorating (and tiring) than a day spent outside on a winter day. Skiing, ice Skating, snow shoeing, or taking a walk down to the pond while hearing the crunch of the snow under your foot and the sun beaming down on your face is joyful. Sometimes I like to do these activities by myself and enjoy the silence from the freshly fallen snow and other times I enjoy rousing the whole family and revel in a snow ball fight or watch my four year old navigate a new pair a of skates. Either way, there is nothing better than coming home, shedding your layers down to one, and savoring a big mug of hot chocolate. Our friends, The Davis', always host a fabulous winter holiday party, that starts at 10 am and goes till just after dusk. They are lucky to live down the street from a pond that usually freezes over, so ice skating is the main activity but games of snow tag and monopoly are also so fun! They serve cheddar biscuits and ham and have hot mulled cider in a big pot in the kitchen. The finale is always my kids' favorites as they make several icebox cakes. So, don't dread winter, celebrate it!
