Okay, before this goes any further, In the interest of full disclosure, I have to admit, I have never stepped foot on the isles of Hawaii, but I have seen all the Gidget movies and watched the last five World cups of surfing, which I am thinking kind of makes me a surfing expert. At any rate, what I do know is that last summer I threw this surfing party in my backyard without a piece of sand in sight and it was FUN. On the invite I asked everyone to come in their best "surfing outfits" and from the start of the party this provided some good comedy. While most of the ladies opted for mod florals, there were some guys who were happy to wear clothes that their significant others usually don't let see the light of day. Anyway, this party is easy to throw, because it's all about being laid back. Because no one was interested in playing bartender, I just filled a bunch of coolers with beer and wine early in the day and made a big big batch of punch. For appetizers, I made fruit kebobs and then ordered in a bunch of pizza and topped it all off with a big whale cake from Carvel. I also purchased a slip and slide and hosted a "surfing" contest and played a lot of Beach Boys music which got louder with each hour, and while I didn't get around to playing limbo, I bet that would have added to the night.
All in All, Hakuna Matata.
